Fresher trawler Ottó N Thorláksson, operated by Westman Islands fishing company Ísfélag Vestmannaeyja, has been alongside in Hafnarfjörður for a while as a new set of Naust Marine winches and an ATW management system have been installed.
The relationship between the trawler and the deck equipment supplier goes back a very long way. The 57 metre Ottó N Thorláksson was built at the Stálvík shipyard in nearby Garðabær in 1981 and for many years was operated from Reykjavík by companies that eventually became HB Grandi.
At the time, one of the earliest ATW systems developed by Rafboði (which became Naust Marine in 1993) was fitted to the new trawler, and this served well, until 1999, when the owners replaced the deck system with a complete new set of Naust winches with an updated ATW.
In 2017, Ísfélag Vestmannaeyja acquired Ottó N Thorláksson from HB Grandi, which was then taking delivery of its new generation of fresher trawlers. The hull colour was switched from Grandi’s blue to Ísfélag’s red, but the name was retained.
Now the present owners have again gone to Naust Marine for to deck equipment that has done well for the last 23 years to be replaced, outfitting Ottó N Thorláksson with its third set of Naust Marine winches in its forty-plus year fishing career.
