Built more than thirty years ago for Icelandic fishing company Samherji, the former Baldvin Thorsteinsson has now been flagged to Portugal after a chequered career under a variety of flags and operated by various subsidiaries of its parent company.
The 80-metre trawler has been through a factory deck upgrade, and it will operate in the Barents Sea.
Built at Simek as Baldvin Thorsteinsson, it fished for Samherji for ten years in Iceland before being transferred to German subsidiary DFFU as Baldvin NC. A few years on, it went to Poland as Polonus, before being transferred back to DFFU and the German flag.
It is now in the hands of Samherji’s Portuguese subsidiary Absolutely Genuine Unipessoal in Aveiro, which has carried out the factory refit and upgrades to the crew’s accommodation, renaming the veteran trawler Santa Princesa.
