Things have been busy at Vélfag’s factory in Akureyri, as staff have been preparing the first of the three innovative UNO processing systems for export.
The UNO concept incorporates all of the elements of conventional processing into a single cohesive unit, and this initial version of the UNO machine is designed to process headed and gutted whitefish into skinless and boneless fillets.
The first two systems are on their way to Norway to be installed on board BlueWild’s new factory trawler EcoFive, which is expected to be ready for its first trial trip in June. A third system is being prepared for Icelandic processor Kambur and will be installed at its shore-based facility this summer.
‘We’re experiencing a significant level of anticipation and interest from the seafood industry for UNO. Many are awaiting updates on its performance once operational,’ said Vélfag’s head of R&D, Andri Fannar Gíslason.
‘The development and design journey for this groundbreaking machine has been extensive, and we are very excited to finally have the opportunity to showcase it to the industry and demonstrate its capabilities.’
