Icelandic processing systems specialist Vélfag has delivered a complete processing line to the Castletownbere Fishermen’s Co-op.
The installation includes an M521 heading machine, an computer-controlled M705 filleting machine, and an M822 skinning machine.
This isn’t the first time Vélfag has delivered a processing system tailored to an Irish customer’s specific needs, and over the last three years the company has successfully supplied five installations in Ireland.
Castletownbere Fishermen process a range of species, with wide variations in size. The M705 filleting machine was seen as the ideal fit as this can effectively handle a broad range of fish sizes, and the computer management system makes it possible to reset the machine to settings for the fish being handled, as well as for the condition – with special settings for very fresh fish.
The M521 heading machine is designed to both head whole fish or to remove the collarbone from pre-headed fish. The M521 eliminates the danger of fillets getting stuck in the filleting process and subsequently jamming up production as the following fillets get stuck.
The M822 skinning machine completes the processing line, and is capable of skinning different fish species and sizes.
