New automated longliner Einar Guðnason ÍS-303 is heading for its home port of Suðureyri in the north-west of Iceland following delivery by Trefjar to Útgerðarfélagið Norðureyri.
The new longliner replaces an older Cleopatra of the same name that was wrecked in the winter of 2019, with the order for the replacement placed shortly afterwards. Like its predecessor, Einar Guðnason lands its catches to local processing company Íslandssaga, which is among Útgerðarfélagið Norðureyri’s owners.
Einar Guðnason is expected to operate as a day boat, but is designed and fitted out for extended trips if required.
The 15 metre Cleopatra 50 is skippered by Bjarni Bjarnason and Friðrik Ólafsson, and is expected to operate as a dedicated longliner year-round, working with a Mustad deck setup.
The Mustad hauler is located in a hauling compartment on the starboard side, and the splitter, baiting machine and racks are situated under the full-length shelterdeck, where there is also a heated oilskin store.
Stálorka supplied the dahn line hauler and other deck equipment and the hydraulics are from Danfoss. The bleeding tanks are from Lavango and Kæling supplied the icemaker and pre-chilling system. The midships fishroom has capacity for 43 x 460 litre tubs.
The tried and tested Trefjar layout places the engine room after, with access through the deck house aft, while accommodation is located forward, below the wheelhouse, with bunks for four and a fully equipped galley and a mess area is on the port side of the wheelhouse.
The 480kW Doosan V158 main engine drives a ZF 360 reduction gear, and Einar Guðnason also has a Scan genset supplied by Ásafl. The Quick bow and stern thrusters are linked to the autopilot to be activated automatically while hauling lines at low speeds.
An ARG250 gyro system maintains stability, contributing to better working conditions and fewer tension peaks on the line while hauling, resulting in less fish lost from the line.
Electronics in Einar Guðnason’s wheelhouse are mainly JRC and Raymarine equipment, supplied by Sónar ehf.
