Hvide Sande skipper Jan Mathiesen didn’t have far to go to place an order for a new trawler/flyshooter, and yesterday signed a contract with local yard Vestvært for a new vessel that is scheduled to be delivered in the spring of 2020.
The new Emmalie RI-433 will be 28 metres overall, with an 8 metre beam and with a fishroom capacity for 1200 boxes, double the 600-box capacity of Jan Mathiesen’s current boat. He has chosen to go for an ABC main engine, deciding that this make offers the durability, robustness and fuel economy he is looking for, coupled with a large propeller and nozzle.
Emmalie’s hull will be constructed in Poland and fitted out by Vestværft in Hvide Sande.
As well as being rigged for seine netting and trawling, Emmalie will also have options for switching to industrial fishing.
He has a long wish-list for the new boat, and this includes fast and efficient cooling for catches. Emmalie will also be fitted out with six single cabins, providing better and more spacious accommodation for the crew, which he said is an important factor in being able to attract newcomers to the industry who want to be reassured that they are entering a well-organised and safe workplace.
