Fishing company Vestri ehf, based in Patreksfjörður in the west of Iceland, has acquired the 39.95 metre LOA, 10 metre breadth twin-rig trawler Tobis from its owners in Norway.
Tobis is reported to be on its way to Iceland and the handover will take place in Hafnarfjörður next week.
The trawler will become Vestri and will be the sixth vessel to carry the name since the first Vestri came to Patreksfjörður in 1967.
The current Vestri is a seine netter, and this latest to carry the name will be the first trawler to operate from Patreksfjörður for more than twenty years.
Skipper Jón Árnason has been quoted as saying that the new trawler will start on shrimp and will work with a crew of six or seven, with extra crew needed when switching to groundfish.
Tobis was built in 2009 at Karstensens Skibsværft for Danish owners and was sold in 2018 to its current Norwegian operator.
