The fire that caught hold of factory trawler Kodiak Enterprise has subsided, but fire crews are still working on board to contain the damage and maintain boundary cooling as the fire continues to burn itself out.
The Trident Seafoods trawler was alongside at Tacoma WA when the fire broke out and three crew who were on board the 60-metre factory vessel at the time made it to safety. Four firefighters who attended the blaze are reported to have suffered injuries during the initial response.
According to US Coast Guard reports, the fire has not yet fully burned out, although it appears that most flammable material has now been consumed.
Kodiak Enterprise is now left listing heavily to port at its quayside location and dive teams have examined the hull in an attempt to locate the source of the ingress of water, while efforts are being made to pump out water from the hull to maintain its stability.
No oil spills have been observed, and containment booms have been deployed around the vessel, while skimmers and other spill response facilities are on standby.
This is the second fire on board a Trident Seafoods vessel in recent years, as processor vessel Aleutian Falcon suffered a fire on board at a Tacoma shipyard two years ago.
