New UK beamer is Luyt yard’s largest contract

The Machinefabriek Luyt yard at Den Oever has been contracted to deliver a new 35.25 metre beam trawler for UK company Waterdance. The keel of the new trawler is due to be laid at the Ibis yard in Holland at the beginning of September and the completed hull is scheduled to be delivered next spring to Den Oever for fitting out.

New generation trawler design from Ulstein

Working with fishing company Nordic Wildfish, Ulstein Group has developed a new series of fishing vessel designs with the aim of providing more gentle fish handling possibilities and to be more environmentally friendly. The design incorporates Ulstein’s X-Bow concept, contributing to reduced vibration and pitching, providing a better working platform at sea, with reduced noise levels.

Vónin’s flyers take off

Vónin’s Flyer lift device has been through a long development process, with positive results, according to Óli Horn at the company’s demersal fishing gear division. One of the challenges was to find the right material that was strong but without being too rigid, and now that this is available, Flyers have been in regular use since the beginning of this year.

Promising performance by Poseidon doors in Spain

A 27 metre trawler fishing from Roses on Spain’s Mediterranean coast has been testing a pair of Polar Fishing Gear’s controllable Poseidon trawl doors with some highly promising results. The same pair of doors has since been transferred to another trawler for further testing with different trawl gear – and the first set of large-scale fully controllable Poseidon doors are almost ready sea trials under commercial conditions.
