Reciprocal fishing access arrangements between the Faroe Islands and Norway have been completed, with reductions in fishing opportunities on both sides.
Lower groundfish quotas in the Barents Sea mean that the Faroese cod quota is reduced by 10% to 3910 tonnes. Quotas remain unchanged at 980 tonnes for haddock, 500 tonnes for saithe and 400 tonnes of other species.
The Faroese quota for cod and haddock in the Russian zone of the Barents Sea totals 8445 tonnes, plus by-catches of other species, and this entire quota can be fished in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.
Norwegian quotas in Faroese waters are reduced next year, notably with mackerel cut by 22% to 5150 tonnes. Groundfish quotas are also down, with 2500 tonnes of ling and blue ling, down 100 tonnes compared to this year. The Norwegian fleet gets 1400 tonnes of tusk and an unchanged 600-tonne quota of other species.
