Norwegian naval architect Skipsteknisk has secured a major contract for the design of a high-tech factory trawler for a Russian customer, to be built at Tersan in Turkey. The vessel is predicted to be the largest new purpose-built factory vessel for more than 25 years.
The 108.20 metre overall, 21 metre breadth factory trawler has been ordered by Russian operator Vostokrybprom LLC. This is the yard’s newbuild no 1090 and the delivery date is set for July 2020. Vostokrybprom operates in the Russian Far East and the new vessel will be built and fitted out to a very high specification.
‘During the conceptual design stages, special attention has been taken to obtain lowest possible carbon footprint and to meet the highest health, safety and environmental standards,’ a Skipsteknisk spokesman said.
‘This top modern trawler with the design designation ST-192 represents the first genuine factory trawler in the next generation of large size trawlers yet to be built.’
The operator’s requirements were for a vessel with capacity for operation in ice, accommodation for a crew of 139 and a high capacity for high-level processing on board, including surimi production capacity.
The new trawler is designed to have catching and processing capacity for more than 400 tons of pollock or 350 tonnes of herring per day, with a 300 tonne per day freezing capacity, plus a 250 tonne per day meal and oil plant.
Fishroom capacity is 4000 cubic metres, and there will be a 1000 cubic metre meal hold.
