Skagen remains the top Danish fishing port, according to figures for last year, with 5884 landings worth DKK 900 million in 2015.
Skagen is followed by Hanstholm and Thyborøn in the list of the top ten landing ports in Denmark. Skagen is significantly ahead of any competition, with its landings accounting for 24% of the Danish total, and catch values up 22% over the previous year.
‘This is very positive. This means that we still have an active industry and a port that fishermen want to bring their fish to. This is a position of strength which we hope to develop further with the third stage of port expansion, with planned 130,000 square metres of land reclamation 730 metres of new quayside space,’ said Skagen harbour’s managing director Willy B. Hansen.
The 348,000 tonnes landed at Skagen last year is a 9% increase in volume and this includes 80,000 tonnes of pelagic landings, making it Denmark’s leading pelagic port. Thyborøn follows in second place with 310,000 tonnes and Hanstholm with 197,000 tonnes.
63% of landing volumes and 52% of landing values at Skagen are from foreign vessels, with landings by Norwegian vessels up 15% last year and landings by Swedish vessels increased by 32%.
