Following a comprehensive refit, Faroese trawler Sjúrðarberg is about to make the journey to Mortevideo to join the fleet of Uruguayan company Belnova to operate in the South Atlantic on hake and other groundfish species.
The sale of Sjúrðarberg was handled through Atlantic Shipping, and the trawler’s first port of call was at the Nodosa shipyard at Marín in the north-west of Spain.
Built at the Skála yard in the Faroe Islands in 1987, the 60-metre filleter factory trawler was sold earlier this year by Klaksvík company JFK to another Faroese operator, Thor, before it was acquired by Belnova, a company with Galician capital behind it which had previously been a Pescanova subsidiary.
Over the years the trawler has sailed as Skálafjall, Beinir, Akraberg, Polonus, Tunus, Dorado and Sjúrðarberg, and is now Río Solis IV, replacing the 76-metre Río Solís III, which was built by Astilleros Construcciones in 1969.
Belnova has used the services of the Nodosa shipyard in the past, and other of the company’s vessels have been to Marín for repairs, maintenance and refits.
In this instance, Río Solis IV has been through an extensive refit, with the refrigeration system overhauled and renewed by Kinarca and the prcessing deck outfitted by Josmar.
