The sixth in a series of ten factory vessels for the Russian Fishery Company is being outfitted at the quayside at the Admiralty Shipyard in St Petersburg.
Mekhanik Shcherbakov is the latest in the series of 108-metre factory vessels designed for pelagic fishing on herring and pollock in Far East waters.
The ST-192 series of trawlers are the most technologically advanced fishing vessels in the Russian fleet, and each is designed to handle catches totalling 60,000 tonnes annually as these new vessels as the company’s ageing Soviet-era tonnage is phased out. These new trawlers have significantly greater production capacity and offer better working and living conditions for crews, while also operating with greater economy than the older generation of trawlers.
This series is outfitted with factory decks designed for waste-free processing, producing primarily pollock fillets and surimi.
The Russian Fishing Company is continuing to name its new vessels after notable fishing industry figures and Mekhanik Shcherbakov is named after senior engineer Ilya Yakovlevich Shcherbakov (1930 – 2020) who received a number of awards during his lifetime and a long career in the fishing sector.
Mekhanik Shcherbakov is the sixth in the series, and the seventh and eighth vessels in the ST-192 series are at varying stages of completion at the Admiralty Shipyard.
