The pelagic vessels operated by Síldarvinnslan are starting 2023 on blue whiting after the Christmas and New Year layover in port.
Beitir and Börkur have already sailed, and Barði is leaving today. According to the company, its pelagic vessels this year have 78,000 tonnes of blue whiting quota, and are starting out in the Faroese EEZ.
‘We’re starting fishing east of the Faroes, and it’s a 340 nautical mile steam to where we’ll be shooting away,’ said Beitir’s skipper Tómas Kárason before departing.
‘It’ll take us around 24 hours to get to those fishing grounds. The Faroese vessels are already fishing there now and according to what we have been hearing, they are doing well.’
