Fresher trawler Thórir SF-77 has been acquired by Síldarvinnslan from Hornafjörður fishing company Skinney-Thinganes and adds to the company’s demersal fishing capacity.
With the handover, Thórir becomes Birtingur NK-119. The trawler is also outfitted for netting and was built in Taiwan for Skinney-Thinganes in 2009.
After ten years of successful operation, it was given a major overhaul in 2019, during which it was lengthened by 10 metres. The wheelhouse was also lifted, accommodation renewed and improved, and the steering refurbished.
It has a processing deck fitted by Micro that uses imaging technology to sort and grade catches.
The winches were overhauled this year, and a new winch management system was fitted.
