More than seventy years ago, JM Lapeyre revolutionised the shrimp business with the introduction of the first automatic peeling machines. These became the cornerstone of Laitram Machinery, which has since grown into a producer of a wide range of processing systems for the wider food industry.
Laitram has now acquired the assets of Canadian company Martak’s shrimp peeling business line in a move promised to improve the shrimp processing industry’s landscape, especially for the cold-water shrimp sector.
‘We believe that by joining these leading operations, both companies can focus on their respective core competencies, and the resultant combination will provide the scale and resources that will better serve our customer base in the years to come,’ commented Laitram Machinery president James Lapeyre.
Martak will leave the shrimp peeler manufacturing and services business, while the Martak team will be integrated into Laitram Machinery, bringing with them an forty years of service history and know-how.
‘This combination will bring renewed innovation and efficiency for our mutual customers in the shrimp processing market, along with a commitment to the highest standards of reliability and service,’ said Martak CEO Noel Sheehan.
