A food firm, Uniq has confirmed the Pinneys of Scotland site in Annan is being bought by Grimsby-based The Seafood Company. The new owners said the deal – for an undisclosed sum – was “great news” for the 515-strong workforce and the wider seafood industry in Scotland. Last month Uniq declined to comment on reports that its Dumfries and Galloway plant had been put up for sale.
The Pinneys of Scotland factory is specializes in salmon processing and is one of the major employers in south west Scotland. The firm supplies Marks and Spencer and also holds a royal warrant to supply smoked salmon to the Queen. The Seafood Company’s managing director Pete Ward said the south of Scotland operation was a good addition to its business.
It is said that Pinneys is a first-class operation and a superb strategic fit with our existing business. He added that through its proposed acquisition our market share will increase to about 40% of the chilled seafood sector in the UK and our annual purchase of fish in Scotland will rise to £125m. Pinneys of Scotland, which was founded in 1976, will retain its name and management structure under the deal.
