Built under the government investment quotas programme, two new seine netters for owners in the Russian Far East are at the smaller end of the scale of vessels being built under this initiative.
Karaga and Karymai are the third and fourth vessels in the series of six being built for the VI Lenin Collective Farm in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka and are due to be complete before the end of the year. The final two vessels are scheduled to be delivered next year.
These 26-45-metre, 8-metre beam, 441kW seine netters are designed to work two-day trips with a crew of eight to land fresh catches, stored in the 90 cubic metre fishrooms.
Designed by Forss technologies, the new vessels have been built by the Torsiotest yard. They will operate in local waters, landing to the Collective’s onshore processing plant. This series of seiners is expected to fish mainly for pollock, Pacific cod and flounder.
