Norwegian seine netter Vårheim is on its way to the Middle East, having been sold by fishing company Rino Mortensen AS to new owners in Oman.
Built as Einar Erlend at the Solstrand shipyard in 1985, Vårheim measures 27.43 metres, with an 8.60 metre beam. It was removed from the Norwegian registry at the end of August and is undertaking its delivery trip under the Omani flag.
Over the years it has changed hands a number of times, becoming Solværskjær 2 for a while in 2009, then Tjeldøy, Sander Andre, Johannes, Benjaco and finally Vårheim in December 2022.
In recent years a number of Norwegian and other vessels have joined the Omani fleet fishing in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, although Vårheim appears to be the first such large seine netter to make for this part of the world.
