According to reports from Norway, Peterhead trawler Njord sent a distress call earlier today.
A representative of HRS Sydnorge has been quoted as saying that the 24-metre Njord capsized in a position around 100 nautical miles west of Stavanger and the reasons for the trawler’s loss are unclear.
Three crew members were picked up by a helicopter from the Johan Sverdrup oil field and transferred to Haukeland University Hospital where one was pronounced deceased and the others are being treated after ingesting fuel oil.
Another five crew were picked up by offshore vessel Olympic Challenger and subsequently transferred by helicopter to Sola where they are receiving care from the local authority’s crisis team.
