The Ukrainian State Fisheries Agency has reported that shelling by Russian troops in the coastal area near Kherson and the Dnopro river last month resulted in a heavy mortaility of mainly silver carp in a key wintering spot for the fish.
In assessing the scale of fish mortality, staff of the Kherson Fisheries Patrol checked the damage and estimated the loss of fish at UAH 390.4 million, approximately €10 million.
‘Russian troops continue to destroy the life of Ukrainian vulnerable fauna everywhere. Large-scale stocking and measures to protect aquatic bioresources were destroyed in a single moment by Russian shelling,’ said acting head of the State Fisheries Agency Igor Klymeniuk.
‘But the Russian Federation will not stop Ukrainians in their struggle for a free life in a peaceful country! We will win, we will preserve, we will restore.’
