The Russian Fishing Company (RRPK) has struck a cooperation agreement with the Admiral GI Nevelskov Maritime State University (MSU) to support training in the skills the fishing industry expects to need in future.
RRPK considers the university as one of the fundamental educational institutions for the training and advanced training of seagoing personnel, and has pledged to provide internship opportunities for students, as well as to assist in the development of the technical equipment at the university.
‘Any business depends on the professionals who work in it. Our success directly depends on the people who come to the industry,’ said RRPK general director Fyodor Kirsanov.
‘We are building new vessels equipped with the most modern technologies. To successfully work on these trawlers, we need a different level of training and specialist qualification. I am sure that together with our partners we will be able to make up the shortfall in highly qualified specialists in our industry.’
Under the agreement between RRPK and MSU, priority areas of cooperation were identified. In the near future, the RRPK will equip the simulators at the university’s training centre with a special fishing module that will make it possible to simulate real-life conditions at sea.
Cadets will be trained under conditions as close to real as possible, and they will practice navigation skills in the fishing industry. The module is part of the navigation simulator and is a bridge feed console that simulates fishing gear handling.
For the Russian Fishing Company, such co-operative programmes with specialised educational institutions remains a priority activity. Over the past year, 27 students have completed internships in departments and on board the company’s vessels.
These are students and cadets from the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University (Dalrybvtuz) and education centres such as the Far Eastern Nautical School and the Vladivostok Marine Fisheries College, the Admiral GI Nevelskov Maritime State University, as well as Kerch State Marine Technological University.
In creating internships opportunities for students and cadets at specialised universities, the Russian Fishing Company is ready to co-operate with young people, not only from the Maritime State University.
Currently, meetings are held in schools in the Far East, as well as in Novosibirsk, Astrakhan, Rostov-on-Don, Kaliningrad, and Sevastopol. Furthermore, RRPK is considering the possibility of targeted training and paid scholarships for the best cadets.
