The Russian Cod factory in Murmansk, a joint project between the Russian Fishery Company (RFC) and the Agama Group, has been commissioned. This is the first of two ventures, with the Russian Haddock factory set to follow.
The new factory is designed to be able to produce 50 tonnes of finished products per day, working with cod and haddock, producing both quality products for the domestic market and around 5000 tonnes of export production.
‘The development of value added processing in Russia allows us to replace raw exports with supplies of high-quality products to the foreign market, which will ensure an increase in budget revenues,’ commented RFC’s CEO Fedor Kirsanov.
‘Of course, we provide Russian consumers with products from wild white fish, with full quality control throughout the production chain.’
The Russian Cod factory is equipped for correct defrosting of raw material and freezing finished products, ensuring the preservation of the quality and valuable nutritional properties of fish.
The production setup includes the latest generation of robot portioning of fillets, enabling high quality production and portioning, and a high rate of bone removal.
Production of marketable products will get underway once the required licensing procedures have been completed.
The plant is expected to contribute more than RUB50 million in taxes annually, of which RUB40 million will be routed to the Murmansk region.
‘It is important that the plant is built, but even more importantly, that it was completed within the agreed time frame,’ commented acting Governor of the Murmansk Region Andrei Chibis, speaking at the Russian Cod factory’s formal opening.
The construction of the partner project, Russian Haddock, was given its ceremonial start on the same that that Russian Cod was opened. Russian Haddock is expected to have a 25 tonnes/day production capacity.
Both of these ventures have been implemented under the state investment quotas initiative. The Russian Cod plant has an investment of approximately RUB900 million behind it, and more than RUB 250 million is going into Russian Haddock.
