The final auction to be held in Plymouth will take place on 17th May, after Plymouth Trawler Agents informed its customers that it is set to cease trading later this month.
‘It is with regret and sadness that the directors of Plymouth Trawler Agents Ltd announce the company will cease trading on Friday, May 17. Our final auction, weather permitting, will be on May 17 after which you will receive your final settling in the usual fashion,’ company secretary Alison Pessell wrote in a letter to vessel operators.
Plymouth Trawler Agents goes back to 1994 when the port’s fishing industry was in decline, and began trading the following year.
‘We are giving you notice of our decision to cease trading to enable you to seek alternative markets for your catches such as the auctions at Brixham and Newlyn, your local merchants or other outlets. Thank you for working with us during the past 29 years; your support has been invaluable. We wish you and the fishing industry continued success in its constant evolution,’ Alison Pessell wrote.
