As per European Union regulation (EC No 104/2000) all sea food products should be label correctly with their scientific name. And the main purpose of SEAFOOD plus project is to provide tools capable of validating the most relevant and traceable information to the fish sector. Plasmidic standards also standardized for identifying fish species by the process measurements for DNA based methodologies. AZTI-Tecnalia has started a new DNA database at website www.azti.es/dna_database. Under this the traceability research area would be broad to help find correct names of seafood and its features. The AZTI-Tecnalia database contains more than 700 mitochondrial DNA sequences of all sea food available in Europe. The database also helps to validate the techniques of identifying fish species. The database provides a dynamic system to easy the management of DNA sequences in order and it also work as a big source of information for developing new procedures in order to compare different results from distinct laboratories. There is option to update database periodically with new DNA sequences. As per SEAFOODplus these standards ensures the standardization of measurements and procedures perfectly and it have been applied for patenting.
