A new seiner for Norwegian company Havbør AS has been launched at the Özata Shipyard in Turkey.
Built to a design by NSK Ship Design, Vikanøy is optimised for low fuel consumption and high operating efficiency, as well as for a versatile operating pattern that takes in purse seining for herring and mackerel, and seine netting for cod, haddock, and saithe.
The 44.20 metre, 11.50 metre breadth Vikanøy is built with a 500 cubic metre RSW capacity for pelagic species, and will be fitted with a Melbu Systems processing deck, in addition to having the option of landing live fish.
Havbør A/S and NSK Ship Design have worked together over the past couple of years, to create a concept that is considered by Havbør to be both financially and technically attractive.
The entire ship’s concept, and not just the propulsion system or winches, has been carefully assessed and calculated based on the company’s exact operating profile. It is the Havbør’s stated goal to carry out sustainable fishing with minimal NOX and CO2 emissions per kilo of fish caught.
The launch ceremony at the Özata shipyard was attended by Jon Edvard Johnsen and John Martin Johnsen of Vikanøy’s operating company Havbør, and project manager Kenneth Nordli from NSK Ship Design.
With the new seiner now being fitted out, much of Vikanøy’s equipment and systems are being delivered by Norwegian suppliers.
Accommodation is for a crew of up to ten.
