According to the information available some residents at Stansbury on Yorke Peninsula are fighting a planned marina development as it poses serious threat to the lives of local oysters. Marina development is worth $100 million and it has an environmental impact and gone to South Australian Planning Minister Paul Holloway after more than 18 months.
Trevor Carbins, a member of the Oyster Bay Preservation Committee, opined that silt from any dredging would suffocate millions of oysters. He added that the proposed development is environmental madness and would put the oyster industry at risk. Carbins further told that the guidelines for oyster farmers state that no structure must be built in the sea closer to oyster farms than one kilometre and this proposal would contravene those guidelines and must be rejected.
According to Carbins this proposal must be rejected as the prime reason being the loss of the natural marine environment, which is the very reason why locals and visitors are here or visit Stansbury, so we reject it outright.
