Owners of Shetland pelagic vessel Antarctic II have placed an order with a Spanish shipbuilder for its new pelagic trawler.
Fiskebas Fishing Co Ltd has operated since 1986 and its current pelagic vessel Antarctic II LK-145 was delivered in 2004. That vessel has served them well and like its replacement, is a Skipsteknisk design.
They went back to Skipsteknisk for the design of their new 69.90 metre pelagic trawler, and opted to build at the Zamakona yard in Bilbao. While Fiskebas has a long relationship with the Norwegian designer, this will be the first Skipsteknisk-designed vessel to be built by Zamakona Yards, which has a long track record behind it of building tuna vessels and other sophisticated fishing vessels.
The new vessel will have accommodation for 14 crew and the design emphasis has been placed on ensuring high catch quality, with optimal water flow within the RSW system.
The Zamakona group has shipbuilding facilities at Santurtzi (Vizcaya), Pasajes (Guipúzcoa) and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands), and has more than 41 years of experience building and repairing all types of vessels.
