Faroese fish farming and processing company Bakkafrost has agreed to buy an offshore support vessel from Havila Shipping in Norway, which will be converted to fish farm support work.
The 73.50 metre LOA by 16.60 metre beam Havila Princess was built in 2005. It has two propeller and both bow and stern thrusters to give it excellent manoeuvrability. It is also equipped with dynamic positioning and has an extensive aft working deck of more than 700 square metres.
Bakkafrost’s plan is to convert the Havila Princess to carry out fish farm work and to have it ready for operation early next year, by which time it will have been renamed Martin.
‘The intention is equipping the vessel with a system for delousing of salmon using warm sea water. With this investment, Bakkafrost’s capacity for delousing of salmon without the use of medical treatment will increase considerably,’ a Bakkafrost spokesman said.
