Icelandic Group has struck a deal to sell its Sandgerði-based subsidiary Ný-Fiskur to Nesfiskur in nearby Garður.
Ný-Fiskur’s speciality has been in producing fresh seafood for export, processing approximately 6000 tonnes annually that finds it way to Belgium and other European countries. The company also has its own fishing vessel, longliner Von GK-113, operated by a subsidiary company Útgerðarfélag Sandgerðis, with a quota of 800 cod-equivalent tonnes.
According to an announcement by the Icelandic Group, the sale is part of a rationalising process by its owners, the investment fund Framtakssjóður Íslands (Enterprise Investment Fund), of which the Icelandic Group is a wholly owned entity, and which also recently sold its Spanish subsidiary to another Icelandic company.
The ‘Icelandic Seafood’ trademark is not part of the Ný-Fiskur package and remains with the Icelandic Group.
‘The last few years have been eventful ones for Ný-Fiskur with a great deal of re-organisation aspects of the way it is run. We consider that Ný-Fiskur has excellent prospects and we’re proud to be able to hand the company over in good shape. We are also satisfied with the intentions of the new owners that the company will continue its activities in its home town, Sandgerði,’ said Herdís Dröfn Fjeldsted, chair of the Iceleandic Group board and managing director of the Enterprise Investment Fund.
