Gondan Shipbuilders at Castropol in Spain have launched a new trawler for Norwegian owners ahead of fitting out and completion scheduled for the first quarter of next year.
The new Magne Arvesen is a Kongsberg Maritime (formerly Rolls-Royce) NVC 370 design, and this is the first time that owners Engenes Fiskeriselskap have chosen to build at a Spanish shipyard.
As well as the design, Kongsberg Maritime will also be supplying the majority of equipment and systems on board the 69.90 metre LOA, 16 metre breadth freezer vessel.
Built in steel with aluminium superstructure, Magne Arvesen will operate mainly in northern Atlantic, Barents Sea and Svalbard waters. With an accommodation for 29 people, it will be fitted out for heading, gutting and freezing of whole white fish with a sophisticated factory deck and a 1400 cubic metre refrigerated fishroom.
Gondan Shipbuilders has a longstanding reputation for being able to build any kind of vessel and has a 90-year history of shipbuilding behind it.
According to the yard, the Covid-19 pandemic has presented the company with some significant challenges.
‘Thanks to careful co-ordination and implementation of all necessary measures, in accordance with current government regulations, we look forward to successfully fulfilling commitments, and moving forward despite the difficulties,’ a spokesman for Gondan Shipbuilders said.
