Rock has developed a new version of its Sea Hunter trawl doors, and these have been fishing well on board one of the Faroese fleet’s smaller trawlers.
‘The Sea Master doors were the first ones we made with four backstrop chains, and that performed so well that we decided to re-design the Sea Hunter doors to have four chains instead of three,’ Rock’s manager Pétur Symphor Kjærbæk said.
The first 3.50 square metre pair have been fishing on board the 21-metre Faroese trawler Fiskaklettur, and another trawler, Olga Maria, it getting the next pair to be built.
The re-vamped Sea Hunter doors have been given a new middle section that provides additional lift, and the four backstrops make these doors exceptionally stable, he said.
‘The tension is pretty much even across the four chains,’ he added.
Rock Trawl Doors this month celebrates twenty years in business, and although the company has new owners as of this year, it continues to operate as an independent entity, with all of its doors produced in the Faroes.
