New trawler Janneke Z-575 has been built in Urk for local owner Jelle Hakvoort, and will operate on the Belgian registry.
Built in a little over a year between the order being placed and the sea trials taking place, Janneke was ready at the end of last year. The subsequent delay in starting fishing is down to the time that has gone into resolving paperwork issues.
‘This is a vessel that has been built entirely in Urk, from keel to mast,’ said Jan Cees Kater of Werft Shipbuilding, which has been responsible for the design of the new vessel, in collaboration with owner Jelle Hakvoort, as well as acting as the main contractor for the trawler’s build.

‘The keel was laid on 23rd September 2023, and a little over a year later, we’re delivering the new vessel to its owner,’ he said.
The 28-metre, 8.30-metre breadth Janneke Z-575 has a draft of 5.30 metres and is rigged for beam trawling and for working multi-rig trawl gear, depending on the season and the target species.
The build as a whole has been completed in Urk, with engineering work completed by Marimecs and the steelwork contracted to TCD, the technical division of VCU. A variety of sub-contractors have handled various aspects of the outfitting process at the quayside in Urk, before Z-575 was steamed to Den Helder for the final phases of outfitting and fishing trials ahead of delivery.
The choice went to Yanmar to deliver the 736kW 6N21AW main engine, powering a 3400mm propeller via a ZF W10220 reduction gear.
TCD outfitted the engine room, which is also equipped with main and smaller generators, as well as a silent pack for use alongside.
The shaft and rudder system were provided by Luyt, who also delivered the pneumatically controlled three-drum fishing winches as well as the anchor, gilson and a package of additional winches, plus the gantry with derricks and blocks. The hydraulics on board have been installed by Couperus, Piet Brouwer handled the electrical installation and piping systems are from HR Piping. Paintwork has been completed by Straalbedrijf Flevoland, in cooperation with Teerenstra.
The wheelhouse electronics have been supplied and installed De Boer Marine. The carpentry work in the wheelhouse, accommodation and crew areas has been done by De Flux. Accommodation on board is for a crew of up to six
Janneke has a chilled fishroom, plus a refrigerated hold space. The freezing and cooling units, and the ice machine are delivered by VKM. Catches are logged using the VCU catch management system.
