Longliner Gandvik-1 has sailed from the Northern (Severnaya) Shipyard in St Petersburg for sea trials in the Gulf of Finland, with a commissioning team of 74 on board for five days of testing and evaluation.
Gandvik-1 is first of four new Marin Teknikk-designed MT1112XL longliners under construction at the yard.
Gandvik-1, Gandvik-2 and Gandvik-3 are being built for RK Virma, while Marlin has been ordered by fishing company Globus.
The series of longliners are 59 metre vessels, each with a 13 metre beam and 2700kW main engines, and designed to be outfitted with factory decks capable of a 25 tonnne/day throughput.
The four are designed for a capacity of around 500 tonnes in refrigerated storage, and for an endurance of around 45 days.
Following the results of the current sea trials, a date will be set for Gandvik-1’s handover to its owners.
