Dr. Alexandra Leeper has joined the Iceland Ocean Cluster team as the new head of research and innovation.
She comes to this new position from the UK, and completed her PhD in sustainable aquaculture jointly with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and Matís ohf. food and biotech in Iceland.
She started diving at age twelve and has been passionate about life in the oceans ever since.
In her new role, Alexandra Leeper will be seeking out innovative projects and opportunities both domestically and internationally that can support sustainable food security and 100% utilisation of our valuable aquatic resources.
She has spent time in various marine industries all over the world, including in seismic vessel operation in Brazil, and scuba diving in Singapore she has seen the impact that society as on our oceans globally. Consequently, her background has focused on reducing the impact that humans have on the marine environment and how to use our resources most effectively, researching topics from ecologically sound coastal defence, alternative proteins for aquaculture and seeking novel aquaculture feeds from circular sources.
Her focus now turns toward using every part of seafood resources, both fished and farmed, to protect the future of our oceans.
