VCU’s engineering division TCD has produced a pair of new Sumwings for Oostende beam trawler Den Hoope O-231. This latest generation of Sumwing has been redesigned by HFK Engineering for maximum performance, reliability, and to have minimal seabed impact.
The new generation SUmwings have an advanced wing profile to generate optimal flow efficiency and the streamlined nose has been refined with CFD calculation for lower drag. This allows a greater than ever degree of precision in fine-tuning the gear, enabling fishing with minimal seabed pressure.
The towing geometry of the new Sumwings has been optimised for reduced drag and to minimise the amount of rigging required.
The construction has also been refined with fewer welds, reducing risk of leakage and maintaining the watertight integrity. This also reduces the overall weight which contributes to more stable positioning over the seabed, and the upgraded pressure bulkheads provide better performance on deeper fishing grounds.
