Baader’s 189 filleting machine has for decades been a fish processing workhorse around the world, so there were high expectations of the new Baader 189PRO when the first units of this new generation machine were first tried out last year.
The Baader 189PRO is the result of extensive development by staff at Baader Iceland, in co-operation with a number processing companies, and Fiskvinnslan Íslandssaga in the Westfjords fishing village of Suðureyri was among those to get an opportunity to test the machine.
The PRO version has been designed to ensure that the computer-controlled blades are able to operate as close as possible to the bones, providing an even higher yield than the older machines. Resetting the Baader 189PRO for a variety of sizes and species is done at the touch of a button on the management screen.
Íslandssaga managing director Óðinn Gestsson reported that the new Baader 189PRO has lived up to expectations.
‘We have long experience of the Baader 189 and our staff were interested to see if the new technology would provide all the intended advances. After a few months of use, it was clear to us that it has met all of our expectations, and more,’ he said.
‘We are producing for demanding customers and it’s crucial that we can deliver consistently high quality. Over the years we have relied on Baader equipment and servicing so that we can meet the increasing requirements of our customers and to ensure that improved yield gives us a better bottom line. I’m convinced that the Baader 189PRO is going to provide us with greater production stability in the long term.’
Baader regional manager for Iceland Karl Ásgeirsson commented that the performance of the new machine confirms Baader’s standpoint that the development and production of fish processing systems for whitefish are best handled by the staff at Baader Iceland.
He said that the development of this machine has taken place in close collaboration with producers who are longstanding customers and the success of this has exceeded expectations.
