The Nodosa shipyard at Marín in Spain has been busy, completing two new freezer trawlers designed to fish in Falkland Islands waters for squid.
Prion, built for the Petrel Fishing Company has been marginally ahead, while Argos Berbés, built for the Orion Fishing Company, has now satisfactorily completed its initial sea trials before returning to the yard for the remaining outfitting to be done.
Like Prion, Argos Berbés is scheduled to be completed in time to participate in the early season in Falklands waters next year. The handover of Argos Berbés takes place in November.
The 85-metre, Stanley-registered Argós Berbés is built for the Orion Fishing Company, a joint venture between Vigo fishing company Armadora Pereira and the Argos Group in the Falklands.
It has been built with a distinctive inverted bow to provide better seakeeping and operation economy, and has been outfitted with a package of electric winches from Naust Marine, including trawl winches with electrical spooling gear and a regenerative system, a net drum, four sweepline winches and a ATW trawl control system, as well as smaller deck and manouvring winches.
