The Slippurinn yard in Akureyri in the north of Iceland has contracted to design, construct and install a new catch handling system for fresher trawler Frosti TH-229.
Installation of the new equipment is expected to take place in October.
‘The new system will ensure an even flow with the emphasis on effective bleeding and washing of the catch, as well as operational reliability,’ said the yard’s production division head Páll Kristjánsson.
While Frosti is at the yard, the deck will also be sandblasted, insulation renewed and floors coated with an abrasion-resistant covering, as well as a comprehensive paint job and other routine maintenance.
‘This kind of assignment is an example of advantages that Slippurinn Akureyri can offer, as we can handle the catch handling deck refit as well as managing other service work simultaneously.’
Frosti’s engineer and part owner Sigurgeir Harðarson is looking forward to the changes.
‘The design process for the catch handling deck has gone well as we are very satisfied with the outcome. We have always focused on responsible fishing and maximising the value of the catch, and that’s not going to change,’ he said.
