Former fleet manager Sigurbjörn Svavarsson has joined Icelandic trawl door producer Ekkó and steps in as the chairman of the company’s board.
‘I’m joining the company to support this revolutionary improvement in trawl technology, which will contribute to more efficient and environmentally friendly fishing,’ he said.
‘Ekkó has designed and developed a new type of trawl doors for all types of trawling, which is a new step in the development of trawl doors. Ekkó doors clearly show less fuel consumption and more catch per towing hour than other trawl doors.’
Sigurbjörn Svavarsson has plenty of experience behind him, having served as a Coast Guard officer and in managing the HB Grandi fleet between 1986 and 2000, before setting up Scanmar Iceland. He has managed projects for Brim and advised fishing companies in Chile, Argentina and Spain on strategic planning.
