When the Qikiqtaaluk Fisheries Corporation (QFC) placed the order for its factory trawler Saputi II, the choice went to Carsoe to provide the advanced processing deck.
The 79-metre, 17-metre beam Saputi II is designed to target shrimp and Greenland halibut, and this meant that a dual capability processing facility would be needed for the new trawler.
‘Carsoe was a natural choice for us as a trusted partner. We have benefitted greatly from Carsoe’s service over the past several years as a partner on the first Saputi vessel,‘ commented QFC’s director of fisheries Jerry Ward.
‘Carsoe has delivered a superior processing solution, efficient implementation, experienced technicians – followed up with a great sparepart and maintenance service, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted operations.’
The factory comes with automated by-catch separators, a shrimp grading system, and a batch cooking line. Alongside this is a complete Greenland halibut production line, which provides the option of switching seamlessly between fisheries.
Freezers are three IQF tunnel freezers and two automatic horizontal freezers. The freezing process is entirely automated, ensuring efficient and continuous processing. This eliminates manual handling, with the infeed and outfeed of the freezers automated to maximise capacity and simplify maintenance procedures.
Once past the freezers, frozen production enters the robotised sorting hotel, with frozen products routed to automatic palletising with an integrated stretch wrapper, and then automatically transported to the cargo hold. The layered wrapping provides stability and protection for the catch, ensuring safe storage under all conditions.
