Following the successful lengthening last year of South Atlantic trawler New Polar, the Nodosa yard in Marín has another Spanish trawler to extend.
This time it’s the 56-metre Eirado do Costal, which is due to be extended by an additional 15.50 metres.
Built at the Armón Vigo yard in 2004 for Pesquerías Tara, Eirado do Costal fishes on NAFO grounds in the North Atlantic and the refit and lengthening is in progress, using a pre-fabricated section prepared at the yard to minimise time away from fishing.
The extension to 71 metres will considerably increase Eirado do Costal’s fishroom capacity, reducing steaming time spent heading to port to discharge. The refrigeration system is also to be overhauled during the refit at the yard in Marín.
Eirado do Costal’s refit is an addition to the yard’s already full orderbook, and with the Falklands fleet having ended its season early, there’s plenty scheduled between now and the start of the next season in January, plus a number of tuna vessels have been coming to Nodosa for repairs and maintenance.
Nodosa is currently building two 85-metre trawlers, Prion and Argos Berbés, for Falklands-Spanish joint ventures.
