Moody Marine Ltd. Has invited information from organizations or individuals with a direct interest in the fishery to help in the final assessment of it. The species of this fishery are Megrim (Lepidorhombus whiffiagonis), Monk (Lophius piscatorius & L. Budegassa), Sole (Solea solea).
The certification needed information to the assessment process which is relevant to the status of the stock, ecosystem interactions or fishery management practices. The main location of the fisheries is ICES Area VII d,e,f,g amd h-k. ICES Area VIIIa (South Brittany). The fishery for sole takes place in: ICES Area VII d and e. The fishing method in this fishery is beam trawl.
This fishery management is based on TAC & Quota from which the UK is allocated a quota. The commercial market for megrim are France and Spain, although UK demand is growing. While sales of monk and sole are also made to Europe, UK sales are more significant and the market for certified product is expected to be more geared towards UK domestic sales. It is expected that this assessment would be finish by December 2010.
