Trawler/seine netter Turma Nova PD-105, which was built at Maaskant in the Netherlands, has been sold to Norwegian owners after having been laid up at the yard since 2020.
Turma Nova was built for fishing company Ekofish Group to operate under the UK flag, and the company declined to take delivery of the new vessel at the time, stating that it failed to achieve projected operating figures. Since then it has been at the quayside, and for sale with shipbroker Atlantic Shipping.
The buyer is Tromsø company Fruholmen Seafood, which is active in the snow crab fishery. Although this is the company’s largest investment, there is speculation that the price of the vessel was attractive, and provides Fruholmen with what is to all intents and purposes a newbuild.
The 32 metre Turma Nova is being renamed Svenør, and it is equipped with a 1300hp Caterpillar main engine, as well as three 465eKw Caterpillar gensets to power its diesel-electric propulsion and the 3430mm AMW propeller
Designed to fish in the North Sea and Channel with trawl and seine net gear for groundfish, it has twin net drums, combination trawl/seine winches and a mid-wire winch for twin rigging. The catch handling deck is laid out with an AFAK processing setup, flake ice production and a 230 cubic metre chilled fishroom. Accommodation is for a crew of nine.
It remains to be seen what the new owners choose to do with their new vessel, but fitting it out to fish for snow crab would call for some extensive remodelling of the catch handling deck and fitting holding tanks.
