Icelandic refrigeration and cooling specialist KAPP has acquired the majority of shares in Seattle-based Kami Tech Inc.
Kami Tech is an established producer of specialised stainless steel and aluminium equipment for the seafood and general food sectors, and is a supplier to leading US producers such as American Seafoods, Trident Seafoods and Golden Alaska Seafoods.
This acquisition is seen as a major step in KAPP’s expansion into the US west coast.
‘By combining the strengths of KAPP and Kami Tech we are broadening our capacity to serve a wider customer base in North America with modern, end-to-end systems,’ said KAPP’s CEO Freyr Friðriksson.
‘Both companies have been successful in building up strong business network and deliver high-tech systems. Working together, we are offer a wider range to the market, based on our shared values.’
KAPP supplies slurry ice and refrigeration systems to this market, along with cooling tanks, freezers and thawing systems. The company has been active in the US since 1999 and has supplied its OptimICE slurry ice machines produced in Iceland to companies in the US, Canada and Alaska. Its acquisition of Kami Tech is its response to meeting the growing demand for cooling and refrigeration systems in the US.
As well as its acquisition of Kami Tech, KAPP also recently acquired the assets of the bankrupt Skaginn 3X, which serves to increase the scope of its product range.
‘The merger with KAPP is an exciting opportunity to offer customers in North America an increased choice of systems that are genuinely exceptional. Our combined specialist expertise and loyalty to customers will drive increased growth and open opportunities to take on more varied challenges,’ said Kami Tech general manager Tom Kay.
