Marine and seafood industry publishing group Oceanspace Media has stretched beyond Norway to acquire a couple of Danish titles for its expanding portfolio. This isn’t the first time the Bergen-based Oceanspace has expanded abroad, and already runs operations in Chile and Scotland.
Its home market is in Norway, where its flagship fishing industry title Kyst Magasinet has recently gone from a free-to-read basis to operating in this demanding environment with a subscription model.
The acquisition of Fiskerbladet, a Danish fishing industry publication that goes back to 1955, and its stablemate Maritime Direct, both of which are today both print and online titles, can be seen as a shift into new territory, as was confirmed by Oceanspace’s owner and chairman Gustav Erik Blaalid.
‘This is a step towards developing Oceanspace Media into a Nordic media company with a continued focus on the maritime and marine sector,’ he said in a statement.
Oceanspace Media Danmark intends to continue a commercial collaboration with FL Marketing, which was until the acquisition the owner of the two Danish titles.
‘Fiskerbladet and Maritime Direct have existed in the market since 1955. Although many of our customers are media companies, the media industry is not our core area. We are therefore pleased that a professional media player is now taking over the ownership and that we can continue our commercial collaboration,’ said FL Marketing’s managing director Freddy Rasmussen.
