An ice-free chilling system for fresh fish, developed by Icelandic company Skaginn 3X and already is use on board a number of Icelandic trawlers, is now to be fitted to a new trawler under construction at Karstensens Skibsværft.
Havfjord is one of a pair of new 36 metre LOA, 9.50 metre beam seine netters being built for Carl Aamodt and his business partners, and they have opted for Skaginn 3X’s Sub-Chilling technology, which maintains catches at a steady sub-zero temperature without being frozen.
According to Skaginn 3X, the system has been proved to be fully successful in both seagoing and shore-based installations, delivering a higher quality product that performs better during processing and extending shelf life.
Havfjord’s owners deliver catchers to Danish auctions, so that their fish finds its way to consumers across Europe.
‘We take great pride in providing our customers with the highest quality seafood available. To be a leader in this area, you need the very best of tools, at all levels, without any compromise,’ Carl Aamodt said.
‘When it came to fish quality, we chose Sub-Chilling, a tried and tested method that would guarantee the best results.’
The Skaginn 3X system is scheduled to be delivered to the yard in Skagen for installation later this year.
