The NFFO is offering to provide assistance for UK fishermen who have been told that their under 10 metre licences will be capped as DEFRA attempts to reduce the under 10 metre fleet’s latent capacity.
An appeals process is in place and any fisherman who feels he has received unfair treatment is able to appeal for a review of the decision.
‘We believe that it is important to address the problem of latent capacity,’ commented NFFO Chairman Tony Delahunty
‘However, we are also of the view that no genuine fisherman should have his business adversely affected through inadequate government information. Sometimes a vessel’s history of activity or circumstances may not be clear cut.’
Those NFFO members who require confidential assistance are invited to call the NFFO on 01904 635430.
