Icelandic fishing gear manufacturer Hampidjan is taking part in the Seafood Expo North America and Seafood Processing North America event taking place in Boston from the 6th to 8th of March, where the company will be presenting its activities and products.
According to marketing and sales manager Guðbjartur Thórarinsson, Hampidjan will be on Stand 2065 alongside Promote Iceland and the Iceland Ocean Cluster. He said that this represents a new co-operative initiative between eight of the Ocean Cluster companies appearing together under the Iceland banner in the technical section of the exhibition.
‘The “Fish and Ships” initiative is very new,’ he said. ‘What we are doing is bringing together Icelandic ship design, fishing gear, catch handling and traceability, all with the emphasis on adding value, with the fishing gear as one of the key elements in the chain.’
‘We will be presenting Hampidjan’s innovations in demersal and pelagic trawl gears, focusing on DynIce warps and the DynIce Data cable,’ he said, commenting particularly on Hampidjan’s part in the initiative.
‘One of the main advantages of the DynIce warps is that the reduce a trawler’s power requirement while fishing. We’ll also have our DynIce Data cable on display, with all the advantages that are part of faster and more precise data transfer from the fishing gear to the catching vessel. The potential for development in trawl door adjustment and high-quality visual data depends on these two factors, opening the way for more economic and and better catch strategies.’
‘The final result of these new technologies is that they are expected to contribute significantly to reducing the carbon footprint associated with seafood products in the future,’ Guðbjartur Thórarinsson said.
